Welcome and Keynote
Jim Collogan, NSFA Project Director, will deliver a
keynote address entitled
Seven Key
Benchmarks of Successful Foundations.
Results of a national survey of K-12 foundations conducted
by the NSFA in February 2008 will be shared. Hear what
foundation personnel from around the United States said
about their foundation’s growth and development. Learn about
the programs and tools available to assist foundation
leaders.
Jim Collogan currently directs the development of the
National School Foundation Association (NSFA), a national
project endorsed by seven states’ school board associations
and the National School Board Association. His primary focus
is training foundation leaders and developing support
services for school and school district foundations
throughout the nation.
Jim has worked as an education foundation consultant and
foundation director. He has helped to start and direct
several education foundations and held leadership positions
at both the college and university level in development
work. He holds permanent Iowa administrative licensure and
has 20+ years of school fundraising experience as a school
administrator, including annual fund drives, two capital
campaigns and numerous planned giving presentations.
His post-graduate studies at Iowa State University have
centered on the characteristics of highly functioning school
foundation directors. In addition to his BA from UNI and an
MA from Drake U. he is a graduate of the Iowa Non Profit
Management Academy and the RDS Planned Giving Institute. He
has authored the
School Foundation
Textbook; A Guide for K-12 School Foundation Development
and the
Foundation
Management Certification Program
distributed by the NSFA.

2007 Senate Bill 0030 and Center Grove Education Foundation
board member and
Tom Langdoc, Director of School and Community Services,
M.S. D. Wayne Township
Learn about current education related legislation and how
it might impact public education foundations. Find out how
school corporations are interpreting legislation and working
successfully with education foundations.
Re-Tooling Your Foundation for Success
Presented by Jim Colllogan, NSFA Project Director (see
biography above)
Discover Destination Planning as a tool for implementing
the seven key benchmarks of successful foundations.
Uncomplicated but motivational tools and techniques everyone
can use to improve their foundation’s performance will be
discussed.

Executive Transition Management and Succession Planning
Presented by Bryan Orander, Founder of Charitable
Advisors, a provider of consulting services to nonprofits
and foundations in the areas of planning, project management
and executive transition.
This workshop is designed to minimize the risks that
occur when an Executive Director departs and to facilitate
opportunities for board leaders to build the capacity of
their organizations during the transition process. Learn
about a three-phased process to reduce the risks and
increase the likelihood of a successful transition.
Earned Media 101
Presented by Beverly Phillips, Founder of Phillips
Communications Group, a full service public relations firm
specializing in strategic communications planning, media
relations campaigns, program marketing and project planning
for businesses, nonprofits and government.
Learn how to get the word out about your program or event
when you have no money for paid advertising.

Meeting rooms will be made available until 4:00. So plan
to stick around and network with other foundations, visit
with exhibitors, and pick up materials from the resource
table. You’re welcome to stay for any or all of this
informal networking session.
Don’t forget about the networking reception and dinner on
Wednesday, April 23 rd
beginning at
5:00 at Homewood Suites just down the road from the
conference site. All are welcome to attend, even those not
planning overnight accommodations. See the registration
